Domestic Mover of the Year Award 2018 – We’re Finalists

This is becoming quite a year. Not only is it our 40^th anniversary but we have reached the finals in the British Association of Removers Domestic Mover of the Year Competition 2018.

We are one of only three companies from across the country that have been selected as finalists. This is a great honour and we are proud to be flying the flag for all the Kent house removals companies.

Customer Experience

The Domestic Mover of the Year award recognises outstanding performance, commitment and rewards companies that lead by example. This year the focus was on “Customer Experience”. From a customer making the decision to move, right though to post-move follow-up and customer feedback.

This prestigious competition is open to all of the 400 UK members of the British Association of Removers (BAR). Initially the BAR graded each application and down-selected to 6 companies to create a shortlist. Customers of the shortlisted removal companies were then interviewed to select the top three with the best customer service. Amazingly we were selected as a finalist. We are so grateful to all our customers for using and recommending our house removals company.

The next stage in the competition was a site visit and audit. This was conducted by the British Association of Removers Director General and a second impartial judge. The eventual winner will be announced at the BAR Conference on 19^th May.

Moving Up

It is amazing to think that Colin Batt started out with a van from a small bungalow in Bethersden back in 1978. 40 years on we are still a family-run business, now operating from Ashford under the leadership of Simon Batt. We have grown since those early days and now operate a large fleet with our own storage facility along with a document archive and shredding business.

Wining this award would be an unbelievable result but reaching the final is an amazing achievement in itself. We are proud of what we do, proud of our Kent roots and so proud of all the customers and staff that have supported us over the years. Ultimately it is the hard work and dedication of our staff that make our house removals services excel. Thank you for all your hard work, sacrifice and good humour.

We are very proud to announce that we have passed our initial audit for the British Standard for House Removals. We are now certified by Quality Standards Services as meeting the British Standard for delivering BS EN12522. This Standard covers all furniture removal activities conducted for private individuals. The certificate shows that we are operating to the highest standards in the Removals Industry.

What is really impressive is that we not passed the audit first time, but we passed with zero non-conformities. This means there were no major or minor discrepancies with any of our policies or procedures. This is down to all the hard work the team did in preparing for the audit and the high standards we set ourselves, every day and on every house removal.

The audit examines every aspect of our house removals services and, therefore, it ensures we have the right processes, people and procedures in place to execute every phase of a removal. From initial enquiry, through the quotation to the move itself and beyond to our complaints procedures (not that we receive many of those). The QSS logo is your indication of a quality removals company delivering a quality removals service.

External Recognition

We are extremely proud to achieve this certificate but it is not the only sign of our outstanding removals services. You may know we are a member of the British Association of Removers, who also conduct an annual inspection of our business. Furthermore, last November we were honoured to receive the Customer Service Award from Business Awards Kent. The award was open to all small and medium-sized businesses from the Ashford area from all industries. We are proud to say we won, after beating some stiff competition.

We have just passed our annual British Association of Removers audit with flying colours. The audit is the yearly check of our house removals service, people and processes. Here are some moving home top tips and handy hints to help you plan your house removal. Remember prior planning and preparation really does pay dividends when it comes to moving home.

Moving Home Top Tips #1 -Timing

Fridays, the last week of every month, and around Bank Holidays are a removal companies busiest time and so tend to be the most expensive. Moving house outside of these times will reduce your costs and improve your choice. Work with your solicitor to fix a date that suits you as soon as possible and let your remover know.

Moving Home Top Tips #2 -Declutter

Removing unwanted items before you house move always saves money. Local charities are always grateful for everything from shirts to sofas, DVDs to desks. You don’t want to pay to move some items of furniture that you know won’t be needed at your new property.

Moving Home Top Tips #3 -Packing

Packing yourself will help save the pennies but you’ll need to factor in your time, the stress and extra hassle. You should also bear in mind that items packed by the owner are not covered by removals insurance. In the long run it may work out cheaper to ask your removal company to do the packing for you, it is definitely less stressful.

We always recommend getting at least three on-site quotes from members of the British Association of Removers (BAR). Online quotes may seem cheaper but they lack detail and you can get late notice charges if all the information hasn’t been provided upfront. Also it is worth remembering that the lowest price doesn’t always mean the cheapest removal in the long run – damages and delays can increase your costs. Always choose a reputable company and see what their previous customers have said about their service.
