From a Single Van to a Trusted Kent Removal Company

We started with just one van outside a bungalow in Bethersden, and we’ve been growing ever since. Today, we operate a fleet of vehicles from our Ashford headquarters on Maidstone Road, supported by a large team of skilled professionals.

Over the years, we’ve called Bethersden, Challock and Faversham home — but no matter where we’ve been based, we’ve remained proudly family-owned and family-run. In fact, we’re a removals family in every sense of the word: alongside the Batt family, two other family groups — brothers, and a father with his two sons — are an integral part of our team.

From day one, we’ve specialised in piano removals — a unique skill that demands care, precision, and meticulous planning (especially when manoeuvring a grand piano through a second-floor window!).

Our team are Kent’s go-to piano movers, trusted by local piano dealers, tuners and concert venues alike. We even had the honour of moving Beethoven’s Broadwood Fortepiano on its European concert tour — proof of the trust placed in our expertise.

Simon Batt — Owner and Managing Director

Simon proudly leads the business his parents founded in Kent. Having grown up on the removal lorries, he understands every detail of what makes a move successful. Alongside his ongoing role in the Royal Air Force as a Typhoon pilot, Simon remains deeply involved in day-to-day operations. He is passionate about upholding the company’s values of honesty, integrity, and excellence, ensuring every move is handled with care.

Andrew Urquhart – Business Director

Andrew oversees daily operations and ensures that every move lives up to our motto: “Where Service is Key.” With a professional background spanning premium brand car service management and competitive golf, Andrew brings exceptional attention to detail and customer focus. He and Simon grew up together in Ashford, where their shared commitment to excellence continues to shape the business today.

Stephanie Fairfield-Ruxton — Office Manager

Stephanie is the heart of our office and the friendly voice that will often greet you first. She brings years of administrative and HR experience, particularly within family-run businesses, and plays a vital role in coordinating moves, managing bookings, and supporting our customers. Her calm, organised approach ensures that every client enjoys a smooth, stress-free experience from first call to moving day.

Colin & Melanie Batt – Founders

Colin built the company from the ground up and remains a guiding influence as Director. With more than 45 years of removals experience, there’s little he hasn’t seen or moved! Although less hands-on today, Colin continues to shape the company’s direction and culture. When not at work, you’ll likely find him on the golf course, perfecting his swing.

Melanie has been the backbone of the business since the very beginning. From managing the early office operations to supporting Colin and raising their family, Melanie has seen every side of the removals world — from grand pianos lifted by cranes to furniture delivered by speedboat! Her dedication and warmth have helped define the family spirit that still drives the company today.
